Carnival Glass (2018)
These paintings occupy a nonrepresentational space built by a language of tools which are always in development. I have been in search of mechanisms that enable arbitrary pictorial outcomes, wherein visual hierarchy and decision making are suspended. The paintings are color games using gradients and color tropes to enable form to emerge of its own accord. Their purpose is not their final form, nor their process, but the gaining of insight into the systems of their making. In this way I remove the spiritual, narrative, and emotive from my paintings.
Nevertheless, through a painting’s at-once-ness, its visual existence as a whole, kinetic energy synthesizes in pointalistic congregations of color and form. The spirituality of light emerges in the perception of the shimmering, the holographic, the transformation of space through tinted glass.
