These new paintings by Brianna Bass use a random number generator to shift the dominance of a color in tightly packed lines. As the second color picks up traces of its opposite, it dims the hue slightly. Through optical mixture, the fuse in to subtle color planes or transparent cells. This is what happens in pointillist and impressionist paintings as small strokes of color fuse into a new color or overall impression in the eye. Complimentary colors like red and green compounded retinal fatigue to produce an effect where the mind isn’t sure whether it is conjuring the effects of color phantasm and vibration, or actually perceiving it.
